Proactive Alliance Certification
Simsi's partnership with Rutgers University and Safe Night, LLC makes this certificate the only authentic credential
Overview
This Rutgers University issued credential sets a basic standard of excellence for people using Proactive Alliance (PA) to enhance public safety and community wellness. The certificate is free and there's no cost to apply.
Eligibility
Applicants must have completed an approved training program offered by the Rutgers Center on Public Security, Simsi or Safe Night and be able to demonstrate a more than intermediate level of proficiency in methods and practical applications of the Proactive Alliance approach to relationship-based community programming.
Skills
Credential-holders possess and utilize comprehensive knowledge in the following areas: problem identification; stakeholder identification; evaluation of stakeholder capacity in relation to the problem; basic data analysis; forming actionable risk narratives from Risk Terrain Modeling analytics; data-informed community engagement; problem-oriented policing; public safety programming; developing and implementing a strategic engagement plan; communicating PA concepts and use cases; providing peer-to-peer instruction to staff and executives to increase awareness and support; and developing evidence-based crime prevention and public safety programming. Credential-holders will have learned empathy-based interpersonal skills; trauma-informed perspectives; interpersonal boundaries; advanced social skills for challenging interpersonal situations; proactive prevention perspectives and techniques; and counseling psychology-based skills and perspectives.
Review Criteria
Applicants for certification must demonstrate a more than intermediate level of proficiency in methods and practical applications of PA. This is achieved by submitting written documentation of their own local case study demonstrating: (1) how the concepts of PA were used to further problem-solving; (2) how the formal PA process was used to secure vital partnerships needed to further project outcomes; and (3) how results from Risk Terrain Modeling (RTM) analytics inform related problem-solving and programming efforts.
Safe Night’s training and support programs help you to achieve all of these requirements. Certificates are awarded to those who meet all three criteria and who can verifiably describe their role in the local case study.
Conditions
Certification is valid for 2 years. To keep an active certification in good standing, you must participate in a 4-hour refresher training program for updates to Proactive Alliance and professional development on the current proven practices. Renewal requires evidence of this completed training.
Application Form
New or renewal applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis. Applications will be reviewed by a committee. Expect to hear from them by email within three (3) weeks. If you have questions before applying, please email instructors@simsi.com
