Simsi's partnership with Rutgers University makes this certificate the only authentic credential for the RTMDx software.
Overview
This Rutgers University issued credential validates your foundational level of skills and experience with RTMDx software. Credential recipients must demonstrate a basic level of proficiency in applying Simsi products and capabilities for Risk Terrain Modeling (RTM) with RTMDx. This is achieved by (1) completing a series of training course sessions totaling 4 hours and (2) successfully running RTM analyses in RTMDx and communicating results verbally and in writing in actionable ways.
Eligibility
You must have an active subscription to the RTMDx software, or be an authorized user within an organization that has an active subscription, and you must have logged-in and utilized the software to setup and run multiple analyses on your own.
Skills
Credential holders are fluent in key Risk Terrain Modeling (RTM) terminology and have basic knowledge of common professional RTMDx use cases and the best-practices and procedures for using tools and functions in RTMDx. They must demonstrate basic abilities and confidence in interpreting and communicating RTM results and RTMDx outputs. Credential holders will be skilled in: Obtaining, preparing and managing data for use in RTMDx; Setting-up and running analyses; Analyzing multiple topic issues; Running analyses by time, date, subarea, and other variables or filter options; Forming baseline risk narratives; Producing information with RTMDx that drives decision-making and actions; Drafting audience-appropriate written reports; Answering frequently-asked-questions; Discussing iterative processes for ongoing use of RTM analytics-to-action; Assessing changes and outcomes over time. Credential holders have skills necessary to use RTMDx software for risk-based policing, data-informed community engagement, crime prevention, public safety and public health programming, public administration, and city planning.
Review Criteria
Applicants for certification must demonstrate a basic level of proficiency in using the RTMDx software for Risk Terrain Modeling (RTM). This is achieved by (1) submitting an “industry standard” written product demonstrating your ability to communicate analytic results in practical ways that aid decision-making and drive actions and (2) appropriately answering verbal questions relating to RTM, the RTMDx software, and analytic results. Certifications are awarded to people who pass both parts of the certification process.
Conditions
Certification is valid for 3 years. To keep an active RTMDx Certification in good standing, you must 1) login to RTMDx and run new analyses with updated data regularly, 2) use RTMDx to produce at least one industry standard product for professional purposes within the past year, and 3) be knowledgeable of updates to RTMDx software and current best practices for its use. Renewal requires evidence of these criteria and authorized access to an active subscription of the RTMDx software.
Application Form
